Marc Shmuger


A dedicated philanthropist, film executive Marc Shmuger works to support children and strengthen communities from South Central Los Angeles to some of the poorest areas of Tanzania and Rwanda in East Africa.

Among the more than 20 charities Marc Shmuger supports is The Alliance for Children’s Rights, which acts as a helpful avenue for Los Angeles County children from less fortunate backgrounds who experience abuse or poverty; A Place Called Home, which provides safe haven for hundreds of kids every day in South Central Los Angeles; The Fulfillment Fund, California’s leading mentoring program to help underprivileged students succeed in high school and get into college; Humura House, a community based organization that supports victims of the Rwandan genocide; Generation Rwanda, which supports hundreds of students to earn college degrees and find careers inside Rwanda; and Trees Instead, a charity that labors to preserve the memory of loved ones through sustainable environmental means. Trees Instead gives bereaved individuals the opportunity to memorialize their loved ones through tree dedication, thereby creating a thriving space in nature to visit and remember. Marc Shmuger also supports charities as diverse as Los Angeles Legal Aid Association, Richard Bonham Maasai Land Preservation Trust, and The Go Campaign.

A noted film executive, Marc Shmuger has served as Chairman of Universal Pictures and Executive Vice President of Marketing at Sony Pictures Entertainment. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Film Studies from Wesleyan University and lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children.


As an executive at Universal Pictures from May 1998 through October 2009, Marc Shmuger supervised a wide range of highly profitable marketing and promotional initiatives. In his initial capacity as President of Marketing at Universal Pictures, Marc Shmuger oversaw the successful release of numerous blockbusters and critically acclaimed films, including American Pie, Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Meet the Parents, The Mummy, and Erin Brockovich. Due to his outstanding performance as President of Marketing, Marc Shmuger rose to Vice Chairman of Universal Pictures in December 2000 and subsequently entered a period of rapid professional development.
