Jesse Cohn is a Portfolio Manager for the hedge fund Elliott Management Corporation, where he manages the firm’s technology investments. Elliott was established in 1977 and currently manages $21 billion in assets.
During his time at Elliott Management, Jesse Cohn has taken investment positions in companies such as Blue Coat Systems, BMC Software, Brocade Communications, Compuware, Epicor Software Corporation, Novell, Packeteer, and others. In each investment case, he believed the firm’s stock price was undervalued due to factors such as strong company products or market position, but weak management performance or execution. The technology portfolio builds sizeable minority positions in the troubled firms to push management for identified changes. In the cases of Blue Coat Systems, BMC Software, and Novell, his activist investing led to changes in the companies, including board seats and/or agreements to buy out the firms at significantly higher prices than what Elliott had paid for its shares. In cases such as those of Brocade Communications and Iron Mountain, his investment push for increased company performance has led to changes in management.
Outside of his work at Elliott Management, Jesse Cohn pursues his interests in the martial arts. While completing his undergraduate studies in economics and finance at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, he was a part-time computer programmer. He supports education-focused causes and activities.
