Founder and President of Guandolo Associates, John Guandolo accepted a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps when he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1989. For the next seven years, he served in a variety of capacities, including Platoon Commander as well as Assistant Operations Officer and Airborne/Diving Officer for the 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company. John Guandolo deployed to the Middle East to serve in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he commanded a platoon of Marines in combat operations.
After Desert Storm, Guandolo spent a year as Unit Leader for a special operations group that often conducted classified operations. During his career in the Marines, he earned certification as a combat diver and a military freefall parachutist. In addition, he is one of relatively few Marines to have successfully completed the U.S. Army Ranger Training School.
John Guandolo resigned his commission in 1996 to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a Special Agent. In 2001, after four years concentrating primarily on narcotics investigations, he became the FBI Liaison to the U.S. Capitol Police. In this position, he investigated threats to high-ranking elected and appointed government officials.
Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, John Guandolo joined the Bureau’s Counterterrorism Division. He acquired an in-depth familiarity with Islamist terrorist groups and the organizations that support them. In fact, he initiated the FBI’s first program of counter-terrorism training and education that focused on the threats to American security posed by the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist terror groups. In recognition of his efforts in counter-terrorism, Guandolo was twice presented U.S. Attorney’s Awards for Investigative Excellence.
John Guandolo’s current duties include educating and training local, state, and national leaders on various threats to security. In addition to analyzing raw intelligence, he briefs leadership groups on various contingencies and recommends courses of action.
